Icey Roongpiti

During SF Tech Week, I had the chance to co-host a “Women in Tech” dinner with Icey Juthapohn Roongpiti.

Originally from Thailand, Icey grew up with hypersensitive, acne-prone skin.

Meaning she relied on dermatology for everything.

But when COVID shut everything down, she lost access to professional care.

That’s when she saw the opportunity: bring MedSpa treatments into the home.

She launched Starla Skin, a beauty tech brand that combines clinical-grade LED Light Therapy with AI to deliver personalized, at-home skincare.

The product is backed by science and built by a team of Harvard dermatologists, MIT engineers, and leaders from the beauty industry.

She built the company from Boston while still in school, earning scholarships in female leadership at Simmons University.

She named the brand after her grandmother, a skincare entrepreneur, and launched it on her mother’s birthday.

In one year, Starla reached 2M people, got featured in British Vogue, and produced its first campaign in Bangkok.

Her hero product is a 7-in-1 LED Light Therapy Mask, with each light targeting a specific skin concern…
- Red (collagen and glow)
- Blue (acne)
- Green (brightness)
- Purple (healing)
- White (tightening)
- Yellow (anti-redness)
- Orange (circulation)

Now, Starla is building the first intelligent, zone-specific, AI-personalized mask.

Her goal is simple: help people feel confident in their skin.

“If I can build this as a young immigrant Asian woman, others can too.”
