Ana Maiques

While Elon Musk is drilling into skulls so we can tweet with our minds, Ana Maiques is treating epilepsy and depression with a headcap you can use on your couch.

In 2011, Ana Maiques co-founded Neuroelectrics, a spin-off from her first company, Starlab.

The mission? Treat epilepsy, depression, Alzheimer’s, and more, without surgery or pills.

Her weapon of choice? A wireless cap.

It reads your brain. It stimulates it. And it’s non-invasive.

Her first product, Starstim, uses electrical currents and AI-powered brain models to personalize treatment for each patient.

No hospital visits needed. Just a tablet, a cap, and a cloud-based therapy plan.

By 2020, the FDA approved it for at-home use in treating depression.

In 2021, she raised $17.5M to kick off clinical trials in the U.S.

Today, patients using Neuroelectrics’ tech have seen seizure reduction rates of up to 44%.

And NASA? They’ve already used her devices to study brain fatigue in pilots.

But Ana didn’t stop at one company.

In 2022, she co-founded EsTech, a platform bringing together Spanish unicorns and high-growth tech companies like Cabify, Glovo, and Neuroelectrics.

She’s shaping Spain’s innovation economy from the ground up, and advocating for public policy to support it.

She’s been named one of Europe’s Inspiring Fifty Women and received the EU Prize for Women Innovators.

She’s also a mom of four, splitting her time between Barcelona and Boston.

Ana’s prediction? “Neurotech is going to impact our daily lives in ways we cannot even imagine.”
