Indra Nooyi

The first immigrant to lead a Fortune 50 company.

At 39, Indra Nooyi joined PepsiCo as a strategist, rising to become its first woman CEO.

But her journey began far from boardrooms.

Born in Chennai, India, Indra defied expectations by excelling in physics and math, playing in a rock band, and earning her MBA at IIM Calcutta.

She moved to the U.S. in 1978, juggling Yale studies and a receptionist job to make ends meet.

In 1994, Indra joined PepsiCo and revolutionized its future.

Her vision, Performance with Purpose, tackled corporate challenges head-on: reshaping product portfolios to include healthier options, slashing carbon footprints, and championing employee well-being.

Under her leadership, PepsiCo’s net revenue surged by 80%, with annual profits climbing to $6.5B.

From steering iconic acquisitions like Tropicana and Gatorade to pioneering sustainability in corporate America, Indra transformed PepsiCo into a global powerhouse.

But it wasn’t just business...

Indra made personal sacrifices to lead.

Working long hours, raising two daughters, and candidly addressing work-life balance.

In her memoir, My Life in Full, she reflects: “I put the company before me at every point in time.”

Retiring in 2018, Indra’s legacy still thrives.

She continues to serve on Amazon’s board and advocates for equity and sustainability across industries.
