Lisa Price
In 1993, Lisa Price began making body butters and hair products in her Brooklyn kitchen.
With $100 and encouragement from her mom Carol, she started selling her creations at flea markets and from her home.
Her first products (Almond Cookie, Hair Milk, and Black Vanilla Hair Smoothie) quickly gained loyal fans through word-of-mouth.
Celebrities like Jada Pinkett-Smith, Erykah Badu, and Halle Berry became customers, helping Carol’s Daughter gain attention.
“To name my company, I listed everything I was and wanted to be, and realized the most special thing I am is Lisa, Carol’s daughter.”
In 1999, Carol’s Daughter opened its first store in Brooklyn.
The brand grew steadily, with partnerships on HSN and a feature on Oprah that brought thousands of new customers.
In 2014, Lisa sold Carol’s Daughter to L’Oréal, making her products available in stores across the country.
Despite criticism that the brand was no longer Black-owned, Lisa stayed on to lead product development and maintain the brand’s vision.
However, Lisa’s work didn’t stop at beauty.
In 2021, she launched Love Delivered to address the Black Maternal Health Crisis, working to improve care during and after childbirth.
